Resolving my ideas
At first I went through 2 ideas before coming up with my final project idea. For my project I decided to base it around sugar skulls. This was due to the fact that my first idea 'sport' was very difficult to achieve and i found the downside was the fact that it was less creative, and i knew for certain that i desperately wanted to show off how creative i could be to give me more of an advantage. However, two weeks before the exam I knew for certain that i wanted to create a photography piece that was amazing, by infusing my creativity in art with my photography work, but i knew for a fact i couldn't do this with sport because i wouldn't be able to get as much involvement with sport as i could with makeup and disguise/sugar skulls. And finally, by doing this and by infusing my talent, I knew it could be possible to create a giant masterpiece, that would take a lot of dedication and time to be successful; and for my final piece to turn out exactly how I wanted it to.
Also, because I was inspired by the history and creativeness of 'sugar skulls' I knew that I could push the boundaries by experimenting with a variety of colors and unique costumes. Fortunately for me that meant I could put a lot of freedom in my work and make it more personal to me and my style of photography especially with the massive amount of inspiration from the researched photographer and artist 'Erwin Domingo' .
I came up with my idea for my final piece the week before the exam I had spent a lot of time thinking and deciding my final ideas. Two lessons before the examination i had come up with two very creative and time consuming ideas; One of which was a bouquet of flowers (specifically roses), painted on a giant piece of white canvas paper, painted like a real bouquet and then filled multiple sections of the design with my sugar skull images, and which then i would of finally finished with a giant ribbon around the stems of the flowers. I came up with this idea due to the fact that you put flowers on loved ones grave during the sugar skull celebration, and that roses are the most commonly seen and used flowers in sugar skull art. However, the other idea I had came up with was my most favorite. I had the idea of creating a giant sugar skull surrounded in green leaves and a red rose either side of the skull. The giant skull would then be left clear so I could fill it with my inspired photographs. My plan was to have different sized photos so i could recreate the features of the skull with miniatures versions of the larger photos and darken them to create the eyes, nose and mouth. However my teacher advised me not to do this as i could run out of time in the exam and not have it finished. In result to this pre-exam conversation, as advised i changed my idea so that i would just filling the skull with a few different sized photos; instead of having the smaller tinted prints to create the features of the skull that i wanted to originally do in my final piece.
I knew my idea was going to take longer than the exam time allowed (five hours) so in result to this, the day before the exam i decided to prepare my template and paint the majority of it, so i could concentrate on the most important features of my final piece on the day of the exam, so I consequently wouldn't be left behind or run out of time. I had spent a lot of time creating, drawing, painting and decorating the template/border for my photographs. However, unlike the original skull outline I was inspired by, I unfortunately didn't use the patterns and shapes inside the skull. Likewise to this, I also reduced the amount of leaves on the final piece, due to the limited space I had on the size of paper available.

I was impressed by the outcome of my final piece, however there would be a few things that i would change in order to improve it. One of those improvements being that i would like to add the creative illustrations and patterns on top of my images with 3D paint, (as shown on the template above) to add more detail and color to my project. Also most importantly, i would add the darkened miniature photographs to create the original design idea i planned; which was creating the skulls facial features such as the mouth, nose and eyes with darkened photographs to make it appear more realistic, and so it can be identified as a skull more easily.
