The theme of these photographs for part of my final piece is ghosting and the movement of time, I have been inspired by the photographer Alexey Titaremko and his profession in the ghosting of images. I particularly responded to the work of Ghosting as it is a technique used by Alexey to show the movement of time, and it purpose is to make any moving object appear more transparent and unnatural. Ghosting occurs best when the camera is set to a slower shutter speed so it give the image time to focus on the light changes and differences in the image. This particular technique, usually best captures ghosting images with intense lighting with a darker background or foreground. However the technique It is also known as ‘lens flare’, the effect is produced from the light sources in the images, and have therefore cause many ghostly effects in a large number of different ways. In which the final production makes a transparent blur of the repeated image on Photoshop, by simply duplicating the original layer (image) more than twice and moving it either side or direction of the image and changing the opacity below 100%. In my case I have used a variety of layers in order to achieve the ghosting effect. Also In these images you can successfully get the impression that the images look slightly 3d in black and white and unlike in colour the edits look more inspired by Alexey's work; this is because I knew for certain that I wanted to show how I could relate my work to Alexey's but also by manipulating how he does his work and how life is today in my city at home. In these photos I wanted to broadcast how lively and awake Southampton is, when the sun sets on our roads. Fortunately, by doing this I have shown a big city of bright, glowing lights and how magical a location can appear when it is laminated by thousands of miniature bulbs and shop displays. I chose to display my responses in that particular way because of how close I am to the city centre and to prove how imaginative and skilful I can be during my work. I took these photos in late November because there are lots of people around in Southampton city centre for Christmas shopping and the Christmas market made it very interesting and defective for collecting the true Urban response for this project. Furthermore earlier in the project I created condensation on my camera lens to create a blurred effect on my images. I successfully used this technique for a variety of my final pieces which I believe made the photos look more inspired by Alexey's style of work.
To the left is another of my final pieces called the "Dark Angel"; my final piece was based upon influences from both Alexy Titaremko and Amanda Norman. By infusing Amanda's themes of gothic horror I decided to create my own version of her work by showing how the angel is alone in the urban ally and street praying for forgiveness and saviour. Wings generally symbol freedom and spiritual truths in certain religious faiths, which is why I decided to add dark wings to the image; not only do they represent the strength to carry problems and weaknesses but dark angels are not pure and therefore are neglected and sent to earth as punishment. This is the main reason why I decided to position the model with there hands together as if preying and deliberately on Photoshop decreased the opacity so that it appears as if the wings are slowly disappearing as the angel struggles to cope with all its neglect.

When trying to find a final piece idea that would be both unique and had a story beneath the image I went through multiple ideas In order to come up with the particular one I have now. I explored the theme of ghosting, movement, and the passing of time. As I got further into the project I was 100% certain I wanted to sick by the theme I had chosen. My aim was to turn on of my final pieces into a fantasy and shadowy piece which could be inspired by Amanda Norman while creating an exciting and atmospheric piece for Alexey Titaremko. For a final outcome I was hoping to create a large print/ collage of all of my edits for this theme on a large board shaped like puzzled bricks. However I realised that unlike the previous exam I would have to show all of my work and present the shaped collage, as well as write up an evaluation in the 5 hours given time, which I believe would have been too little time to complete. However if I had had more time or this exam I would have definitely gone with my original plan instead of not printing any images at all. I had spent the most of my time editing the images shown above and describing how I had used different techniques to create it, but I know that by doing this I have added more detail to my work and what the image means to me, and also its ethical reasons. I hope that anyone who looks at my final pieces understands the purposes of my image and the reasons for my composition throughout my work.
Skill OneAll images are dragged from the photo gallery into Photoshop, so that they can be layered onto each other later on. the background is decreased in brightness and is slightly increased in contrast.
Skill FourMy models photograph is then adjusted in curves for maximum quality and effect before deleting the background as shown in skill 3.
|
Skill TwoNext the back ground is then turned into black and white with the customised colours to add more dark and gloomy effect to the final image.
Skill Five
All factors of the image have been flattened and applied creating the "DARK ANGEL".
|
Skill ThreeThen as the background is complete its time to erase the white background from the angel wings that will be put behind my model in later stages of the image.
